JFK Music Program, 2026–2027 Important Dates & Events
This page includes special events and performances for K–8 General Music and Choir students. These dates are specific to the JFK Music/Choir program and do not include 7th and 8th grade general music students or band events. Band events will be communicated separately by Mrs. Mary Rohrer.
Music Booster Meeting – Monday, September 21st at 6:30pm in the staff room.
Honor Choir Opportunities
Throughout the year, JFK students will have opportunities to participate in special honor choir and performance experiences. Some opportunities require an audition or selection by Mrs. Corcoran.
Opportunities include:

- Veteran’s Day Program
- Home & School Kickball Tournament
- SEICDA Honor Choir
Iowa Opus Honor Choir
Students interested in participating in Opus Honor Choir will prepare their audition music during music class and with practice materials provided through Google Classroom. Students will also receive a music packet containing their individual voice-part information.
Audition recordings: Virtual auditions will be recorded at JFK during September.
After-school audition recording appointments:

All audition recordings are due Friday, September 25.
Students will participate in the Opus Honor Choir Festival only if their audition is accepted.
Thursday, November 19 — Opus Honor Choir Festival
Location: Iowa State University, Ames, IA
Event: All-day honor choir experience with an evening performance at Stephens Auditorium.
Students selected for Opus will spend the day rehearsing and performing with other outstanding young singers from across Iowa. Parents who wish to attend the evening concert will be responsible for purchasing their own tickets.
Friday, November 6 — QC Storm National Anthem
Selected honor choir students will perform the National Anthem at a Quad Cities Storm hockey game.
Additional information regarding call time, tickets, and student participation will be provided to families as the event approaches.
Wednesday, November 11 — Veteran’s Day Program
Time: 1:30 PM
Participants: Entire school
All JFK students will participate in our school’s Veteran’s Day celebration.
Monday, November 23 — Festival of Trees
Time: 10:30 AM
Location: RiverCenter, Davenport
Participants: 5th–6th Grade Choir and 7th–8th Grade Choir
JFK choirs will perform as part of the Quad City Arts Festival of Trees. The Festival of Trees features live performances from local schools and community groups throughout the event. Parents and families wishing to attend will need to purchase admission tickets.
Tuesday, December 1 — 3rd & 4th Grade Christmas Program
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Our Lady of Victory Church
Participants: 3rd & 4th Grade
Families are invited to join us for our annual Christmas program celebrating the season through music.
Tuesday, December 15 — K–2 Christmas Programs
Location: Our Lady of Victory Church
- 6:00 PM — Kindergarten
- 6:30 PM — 1st Grade
- 7:00 PM — 2nd Grade
Each grade will present its own portion of our Christmas celebration.
Tuesday, January 22 — SEICDA Honor Choir
Location: Augustana College — Centennial Hall, Rock Island
Participants: Students selected by Mrs. Corcoran
This is an all-day honor choir experience featuring selected elementary and middle school singers from the region. Students will rehearse throughout the day and participate in an evening concert.
Parents of participating students will be responsible for purchasing tickets to the evening concert. Additional information will be provided to selected students and families.
Tuesday, February 2 — All-School Talent Show
Participants: All JFK students
All students are encouraged to share their talents in our annual All-School Talent Show!
More information regarding auditions, performance guidelines, and times will be shared as the event approaches.
Thursday, March 4 — Symphony Day
Time: 1:00 PM
Location: Adler Theatre, Davenport
Participants: 4th Grade
Fourth-grade students will attend Symphony Day, an educational concert presented by the Quad City Symphony Orchestra. Students experience live orchestral music in a program designed specifically for young listeners. The Quad City Symphony Orchestra describes Symphony Day as an educational live-concert experience for area students.
March 8–12 — Solo & Ensemble Week
Participants: 7th–8th Grade Choir
7th- and 8th-grade choir students will prepare either a solo or small-group performance to present to a judge.
This is a graded performance. Students who receive an outstanding rating may be invited to perform their selection at our Spring Choir Concert.
Easter Music at All-School Mass
Wednesdays, March 31–April 28
Participants: K–4 General Music
Students in grades K–4 will provide special music during selected Wednesday all-school Masses as we celebrate the Easter season.
Specific grade-level dates will be announced later in the school year.
Spring Choir Concert, Tuesday, May 18
Location: To be announced
- 6:30 PM — 5th & 6th Grade Choir
- 7:00 PM — 7th & 8th Grade Choir
Our spring concert will showcase the hard work and musical growth of our middle-school choirs throughout the year.
Students who receive an outstanding rating at Solo & Ensemble may also be invited to perform their selections during the concert.
A Note for Families
Dates and times may occasionally change as we receive updated information from our partner organizations and venues. Please watch for announcements from Mrs. Corcoran for specific student call times, rehearsal information, tickets, costumes/attire, transportation, and other details as each event approaches.

About Me…
Laura Corcoran is a proud Bettendorf Bulldog (Class of 1999) and a graduate of Trinity International University, where she earned a Bachelor of Music Education with an emphasis in piano and voice (2003). She later completed her Master of Music Education at Appalachian State University, serving as a graduate assistant in the vocal music department and teaching private piano through the university’s Community Music School.
With over 20 years of experience in music education, Laura has taught both full-time and part-time in a wide variety of settings. Her teaching experience includes general music, beginning band, choir, private voice instruction, and piano, as well as accompanying school programs and solo and ensemble events. She has also maintained a private piano studio in her home (currently not accepting students).
Laura is thrilled to be part of the John F. Kennedy Catholic School community. She is passionate about cultivating a joyful, inclusive love of music—free from inhibition—and helping students discover their unique talents and potential through meaningful musical experiences.
